on the east side of town, in koepenick, is the biggest bmx and skate park in berlin. the former world championship course was moved from cologne to here. there is also a big half pipe and a generous dirt track, where champion timo pritzel does his training. in the summer it is possible to play beach ball directly at the lakes’ beachfront. at weekends the skate park organises parties at the club house. for a small fee, visiting skaters and bmx freaks can stay at mellow park. when the weather is bad, the iic congress centres’ pedestrian tunnel is the alternative meeting point for berlin’s skaters. after 18.00 in winter the concrete skater park is busy with pros and beginners. rails and small ramps are brought along by the skaters themselves. skaters are only forbidden when there are big trade fairs at the iic.
