parasite museum

the parasite museum and scientific research centre was opened in 1953 to educate the japanese public about the dangers of unhygenic food preparation. parasite lovers come to admire the most beautiful of the 45,000 piece collection at the museum of kamegai saturo. from lungs and livers to stomachs the japanese doctor has removed the little creatures from human and animal bodies. the best piece is an 8.8 meter long tape worm that was formed within three months in the stomach of a sushi eater. there are also fist sized lung and liver parasites. the museum is not for visitors with weak stomachs. disgusting maggot and tape worm souvenirs from the museum shop are extremely popular. tape worms embroidered on t-shirts and bags or maggots in clear plastic key rings are particularly sought after. the museum opens daily from 10.00-17.00 except mondays.
