London joi  brothers farook and haroon were mixing asian and western music long before talvin singh, cornershop and nitin sawhney became famous. their father comes from bangladesh and was a musician. he owned a little music shop in the east end of london, where the brothers used to help out. by the time joi brought out their first record on virgin in 1999, they had appeared over 1500 times as a sound system. only a few months later haroon dies tragically after a heart attack at the nomad festival. he was 34 years old.
