dj cam aka laurence dumail, is france’s premier hip hop instrumentalist. when he started out he didn’t know any rappers or mc’s. the gallic beats maestro had to make do with scratches and samples. in the early days he wasn’t accepted by the french hip hop fraternity. dj cam was brought up in paris by his german mother and chef father. nowadays he’s inspired by the voodoo religion. cam spent two years recording samples in the french caribbean for his loa project album, released by sony music. when he isn’t djing in one of the capital’s clubs, cam can often be found in clothes shops like le shop or art exhibitions.
